Searching for Surfing Hippos

The Loango coast is probably most famous for its population of ‘surfing’ hippos. These hippos are totally at home in the ocean and one’s best chances of seeing them in the waves is to walk the beach at dawn as the hippos use the sea and currents to move between their night-time feeding and daytime resting areas.

Seasonality

year-round, best from October to April
